«A house is not a machine to live in. It is the shell of man, his extension, his release, his spiritual emanation.»

Eileen Gray (1878-1976)

This statement first appeared in a 1929 special edition of the avant-garde magazine L'Architecture Vivante (Winter 1929), titled "Maison en bord de mer" and written by Eileen Gray in collaboration with her partner at the time, the architect and editor Jean Badovici.
